Hello Gorgeous People!
This week the amazing Greta Thunberg made headlines which brought waste into the forefront of my mind and the part we play at The Family Cook. We are really mindful of seperating our waste and are fortunate that, because we are a business, we often don't get our produce delivered in plastics like you might in the grocery store because we are able to buy in bulk. Typically produce arrives in cardboard boxes. Therefore we are able to recycle a large portion of our waste because it is mainly cardboard. As for our green waste, all our food scraps go to our chickens to produce lovely eggs! (Though unfortunately we are unable to use them in the kitchen to comply with food safety standards). But I promise you, we enjoy them at home! And our chickens are thrilled with their part to play in it!
Don't forget, the containers that your meals arrive in are recyclable, so please put them in your recycling bin if you are not reusing them at home. I know a number of you reuse them to take lunch to work etc. There are lots of creative ways you can use them, such as taking your lunch to work in them, putting the kids school lunches in them or even putting left overs in them. One customer last week said they put their dog food in them! So the ways to reuse them are endless.
I also want to thank you for continuing to leave your cooler boxes out each week. It means we are able to reuse those as well. As opposed to them being single use items. So 'GO YOU'! for being so amazing and playing your part to help us make our environmental footprint as small as possible.
